15 Facts: Marijuana and Our Economy

  People always claim they know the facts about marijuana.  Well, here 15 facts about marijuana and our economy.  I don't see how the opposition is aware of these "facts" and could still be considered the opposition.  It's a no-brainer. America needs to eliminate prohibition and regulate marijauana. Period.   The government would save an estimated $13.7 billion on prohibition enforcement costs and tax revenue by legalizing marijuana, according to a paper endorsed by 300 economists .

Innocent Arrests

  In the war on drugs, it often seems that the police are operating on an “arrest now, ask questions later” policy. It certainly appears that’s what happened in the case of Dallas resident Anne Lenhart, who was arrested for trying to fill her pain medication refill at a local CVS. Lenhart has a severe leg injury. She shattered her knee when falling from a waterfall while on a charity mission in Haiti.

NORML To The Rescue

  A Texas college student has elected to take his chances with a jury following his arrest for possession of marijuana. Possession of under two ounces of marijuana in Texas is a Class B-misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in jail and up to a $2,000 fine.   On July 13, Zachariah Walker, 25, of Denton, was stopped for an alleged traffic violation by the University of North Texas Police Department.

Will Colorado Re-Legalize Marijuana

    A just-released statewide poll by Rasmussen Reports provides strong evidence that Colorado may likely become the first state to re-legalize and regulate the personal use of marijuana this November. On June 6th, Rasmussen Polling conducted a survey of likely voters in Colorado and found majority support for marijuana legalization. Sixty-one percent of those surveyed supported legalizing marijuana if it were regulated like alcohol and cigarettes.

2012 Election & Marijuana Reform

In case you hadn’t heard, three states, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, will be voting on some form of marijuana legalization on November 6th, and two states, Arkansas and Massachusetts, will be voting on medical marijuana. Perhaps even more significant than all of these proposals, are the recent nationwide polling numbers regarding marijuana legalization.

2012 NORML Conference

  The 41st annual NORML conference is happening this week at the Omni Hotel in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. A good time is being had by all, despite the hotel's clampdown on smoking on the patios after other patrons, apparently, complained. Despite 15 years of "legalization" there is almost no where to medicate publicly, especially because many hotels in California don't allow smoking of any kind on their premises.
